General FAQs
Which areas do you serve?
Blue Ridge Mobile Detailing the DMV proudly serves the DMV area (Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) and the surrounding communities. Our mobile detailing units travel directly to you, providing premium detailing services for vehicles, boats, and aircraft throughout the region. Check out the full list of areas we serve to see if we come to you.
Will my personal settings (seat position, mirrors, radio presets) be changed during detailing?
Blue Ridge Mobile Detailing the DMV is committed to preserving your personal settings during our interior detailing process, so you don’t have to worry about resetting everything afterward. While we take great care to minimize any adjustments, certain changes may be necessary to achieve a thorough and professional clean. If adjustments are made, we do our best to return seats, mirrors, and other settings to their original positions. For added peace of mind, we recommend noting your settings before your appointment, or you’re welcome to ask our team to record them for you.
How do deposits and cancellations work?
A 10% deposit is required to secure your appointment and is non-refundable. Canceling or rescheduling within 48 hours of your appointment may carry a 50% cancellation fee — the same applies if an appointment is rescheduled and then later canceled. No-shows may be charged up to 100% of the service amount. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

Mobile Detailing FAQs
What's included in a mobile detail?
Coverage depends on the package — from a maintenance wash and interior wipe-down up to a full interior deep clean with conditioning and exterior protection. See our Mobile Detailing page for package details.
Does it matter if I have cloth or leather seats?
No — each material gets appropriate treatment. Cloth seats are deep-shampooed to remove embedded dirt and stains; leather gets gentle, material-specific cleaning and conditioning to maintain softness and prevent cracking.
Can mobile detailing remove odors and stains from carpet and seats?
Yes. Built-up dirt, allergens, and grime are often the source of both — a thorough interior detail addresses the embedded contaminants causing the smell, not just the surface.
Do I need to be home during my appointment?
As long as we have safe, accessible access to your vehicle, you don’t need to be present for the full appointment — just reachable if we have questions.
Ceramic Coating FAQs
Are ceramic coatings completely impervious to everything?
No — they’re highly resistant to road spray, dirt, bird droppings, and occasional acid rain, but they’re not a total shield against every form of environmental damage. Following the recommended maintenance schedule keeps protection performing as intended.
Can I apply ceramic coating myself?
DIY kits exist, but they’re not the same as a professional-grade System X® application. Proper installation requires meticulous surface prep and controlled application technique to achieve real bonding and durability — which is exactly what our System X® certification trains us to do.
Does ceramic coating mean I never have to wash my car again?
No — it means washing is dramatically easier, not eliminated. The hydrophobic surface means dirt and contaminants bond less, so washes are faster and safer for the paint, but regular washing is still part of maintaining the coating’s performance.
Can debris still damage a ceramic-coated vehicle?
Yes. Coating absorbs minor impacts and resists light abrasion and UV exposure, but it isn’t immune to deep scratches, rock chips, or heavier impacts. We’ll always set realistic expectations so you get full value from the investment.
Paint Correction FAQs
What defects does paint correction actually remove?
Swirl marks, water spots, acid rain etching, light scratches, holograms, oxidation, and light-to-moderate scrapes. Every job starts with an in-person inspection to identify exactly what your paint needs before we recommend a stage.
Is paint correction seasonal?
No — it can be done year-round. Swirls and haze show up in bright sun just as easily in July as they do in January.
How do I protect the results afterward?
Most clients pair correction with Ceramic Coating — a hydrophobic layer that protects the restored finish, resists UV and contaminants, and keeps the results looking sharp for years rather than weeks.
Undercarriage Coating FAQs
How often should my boat be detailed?
It depends on freshwater vs. saltwater use, storage conditions, and how often it’s used — but as a general guideline, twice a year is a reasonable baseline regardless of appearance. Boats in harsher conditions or heavier use may benefit from more frequent care.
Can marine detailing remove scratches and oxidation?
Yes — minor scratches and oxidation are addressed with professional-grade compounds and multiple polishing passes. Deeper damage may need additional repair, which we’ll evaluate during your appointment.
What's the difference between waxing and polishing a boat?
Polishing uses light abrasion to remove a thin layer of gelcoat, eliminating oxidation and minor imperfections. Waxing applies a protective layer on top that enhances shine and adds a short-term barrier against the elements. Most gelcoat restorations use both, in that order.
How should I prepare my boat for a detailing appointment?
Removing personal items from the interior beforehand helps us access and clean every surface thoroughly, and keeps anything valuable from getting misplaced during the service.
Fleet Services FAQs
Can you service vehicles at multiple locations?
Yes — we can service fleet vehicles across multiple locations. Let us know your sites when you request fleet pricing, and we’ll build a schedule that works across all of them.
Do you offer recurring or scheduled fleet programs?
Yes — weekly, biweekly, or monthly schedules are available depending on your fleet size and needs, so your vehicles stay consistently client-ready without you having to book each visit individually
Can you invoice our business directly?
Yes — new fleet accounts are billed to a credit card on file to start. Established fleet customers become eligible for Net-30 invoicing terms.
Do you handle rust prevention for fleet vehicles?
Yes — undercarriage coating is available as part of any fleet program and is especially valuable for vehicles that see heavy road time through winter months.
Marine Detailing FAQs
How often should my boat be detailed?
We recommend a professional marine detail at least once or twice per season, depending on how frequently your boat is used and stored. Regular cleaning and protection help prevent oxidation, staining, UV damage, water spotting, and premature deterioration of marine surfaces.
Can marine detailing remove scratches and oxidation?
Yes. Many surface scratches, fading, and oxidation can be significantly reduced or removed through professional compounding and polishing. The appropriate correction process depends on the condition and thickness of the gelcoat or painted surface. Severe damage or deep scratches may require additional repair.
What's the difference between waxing and polishing a boat?
Polishing restores; waxing protects. Polishing uses abrasives to remove oxidation, haze, minor defects, and weathering to restore gloss and clarity. Wax or another marine protectant is then applied to help preserve that finish and protect the surface from UV exposure, water, and environmental contamination.
How should I prepare my boat for a detailing appointment?
Please remove personal belongings, valuables, and unnecessary equipment from the areas being serviced and make sure we have clear access to the boat. If the boat is stored at a marina or secured facility, please arrange any necessary access or authorization before our arrival. We’ll bring the professional equipment and products needed to complete the service.
Aviation Detailing FAQs
Are your products safe for aircraft surfaces and seals?
Yes — we use FAA-compliant products selected specifically for aircraft skin, seals, and existing coatings, not automotive products repurposed for aviation use.
How often should an aircraft be detailed?
Aircraft in regular use typically benefit from washing every 4–8 weeks, with a fuller detail — wax or a coating touch-up — a few times a year. Aircraft based in salt-air or heavy-bug environments often need it more frequently.
Do you offer ceramic coating for aircraft?
Yes — our System X® certification covers aircraft surfaces, providing long-term protection and making routine cleaning noticeably faster.
Can you work around my flight schedule?
Yes — we coordinate service timing around when your aircraft is actually on the ground rather than requiring you to work around us.
Window Tinting FAQs
What's the difference between your three film tiers?
Shadow is a premium carbon film with 70% heat rejection and a 5-year warranty. Spectre is a nano-ceramic film with more than 90% heat rejection, also backed by a 5-year warranty. Our top-tier film is the most advanced option we carry, rated at 98% heat rejection, and it’s the only tier backed by a full lifetime warranty. All three block 99% of UV rays.
Do you need water or power at my location?
Power only. As long as there’s an accessible outlet, we can install anywhere — no water hookup needed.
How long does mobile tinting take, and how soon can I roll the windows down?
Installation typically takes 1.5–4 hours, depending on vehicle size and job complexity. We recommend keeping your windows up for at least 3–5 days afterward while the film fully cures.
(The cure-time half of this answer is still the general industry default rather than a number you gave me directly — flagging in case Ghost Films specifies something different for any of your tiers.)
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Our entry-level and mid-grade window films include a 5-year limited warranty, while our premium top-tier films are backed by a lifetime warranty for long-term protection and peace of mind.
What tint darkness is actually legal where I live?
It depends on your state and vehicle type. As a general guide:
- West Virginia: Front side, back side, and rear windows must allow more than 35% light in on passenger cars (SUVs and vans get more flexibility on the back side and rear).
- Virginia: Front side windows must allow more than 50% light in; back side and rear windows must allow more than 35%.
- Maryland: Front side, back side, and rear windows must allow at least 35% light in on passenger vehicles.
All three states require non-reflective film above the windshield’s AS-1 line, and all three offer medical exemptions for darker tint. We’ll confirm what’s legal for your specific vehicle before installation.
